An All-ACC defensive lineman as a senior, Collins went undrafted out of Virginia in 2010. He initially signed with the Giants and was released before he even got to play a snap. The Jaguars signed him and in 2011 he appeared in 12 games, but played just 173 snaps.Unfortunately for many teams (and fortunately for others) Collins’ story is not uncommon in the NFL. Many players have bounced…

The Chicago Bears had high expectations for tight end Kellen Davis last year. With former offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s retirement and the subsequent promotion of Mike Tice to OC, the belief was that Davis would shine given more targets.Unfortunately for both him and the Bears, that never happened. In 2011, in a Martz passing offense that basically ignored the tight ends, Davis has 18 catches for 206 yards, but still contributed near the end zone with five touchdown grabs. Last season under Tice, he finished with just 19 catches for 229 yards, with just two TD receptions. In essence,…

The Chicago Bears today conducted the second practice of 2013 with a full roster of both veterans and rookies. Media had access to the session, held outdoors in 85-degree, cloudless weather. It was a great day to cover the team, although many players struggled with the heat. One player who is dealing with his own type of heat is Gabe Carimi, who was not in attendance for the second day in a row. Carimi informed the team that he’ll be missing a portion of the “voluntary” organized team activities (OTAs), so he can work on his own in Arizona at the offensive line camp run by former NFL…

Reports out of OTAs is that the Star of OTAs has been TE Fendi Onobun. He is the same size as Martellus Bennett(6'6 260), runs a 4.48, and has a 38 inch vertical. He played 4 years of Basketball at Arizona and one season of Football at Houston playing mostly special teams. He was drafted in 2009 by St. Louis as a project because he was very raw at the TE position and has been on a few teams practice squads since then. He reminds A LOT of Jimmy Graham when he came out of college. In OTAs, he looks very fast, moves very smooth and is very fluid in and out of his breaks. Catches the ball well…
